Academic
Students who have struggled in other academic settings but who succeed at YouthBuild say it’s the attention and support they receive from our instructors that made the difference. With academic subjects tailored to meet the needs of the workplace, YouthBuild students see that what they learn in the classroom is just as essential to their future as what they master at the construction site.
Over a ten-month period, students complete 640 hours of coursework in which they must display competence in math, language arts, science and social studies. These classes alternate weekly with construction work, giving students ample opportunity to apply their classroom skills to real-life situations.
Students demonstrate their academic competence in a series of industry-based assessments and the creation of an academic portfolio. With this rigorous and comprehensive curriculum, students gain the skills they need to earn their GEDs and enter the workforce.
